Abstract: Principle and research and application conditions of some length measurement methods of drill pipe were discussed including counting method, stress wave method, electric wave method and low-voltage pulse reflection method. Advantages of the methods were compared as well as disadvantages. It was pointed out that the electric wave method and low-voltage pulse reflection method were not influenced by material, diameter and type of drill pipe, which were research direction of length measurement of drill pipe.
